Transferring Files
Via FTP: This procedure allows you to send or receive a file directly from your computer to our computer over the Internet. A high-speed connection is recommended. Sending a file (uploading) is a lot slower than receiving a file (downloading).
Follow these steps:
- Run Internet Explorer
- Copy or type ftp://server01.gtimmons.com/ into the address bar and press go
- Type in the username [gtftp] and password [please call]
- Run Windows Explorer
- Locate the file > right click > cut
- Switch back to internet explorer > right click > paste
- Call or send us an email to let us know that the file is there
Note: If you receive the error message unable to establish connection, change the following setting in internet explorer: Tools > Internet Options > Advanced and uncheck Use Passive FTP (for firewall…) > OK
Via E-mail: Prepare a new e-mail message, attach the file (paperclip icon) by browsing to your desktop and double-clicking the backup created above, and click Send. When complete, drag the backup file from your desktop to the recycle bin.
Via USB Drive:
- Insert the USB drive
- Run Windows Explorer
- Locate the file > right click > copy
- Switch to the USB drive > right click > paste
- Drag the backup file from your desktop to the recycle bin
Restoring a file:
- Save the backup file that we sent you to your desktop
- Start QuickBooks
- Press the CTRL + 1 key to display the QuickBooks product information screen
- Write down the location of your current data file from the File Information section [Example: C:\Program Files\Intuit\QuickBooks\ABCompany.qbw]
- Click OK
- Select File > Restore
- In the Get Company Backup From section, browse to your desktop and select the backup
- In the Restore Company Backup To section, browse to the location of your current data (per above) and select the existing client QuickBooks data file
- Click Restore. The old file will be replaced with the new file.
- Confirm that the restore was successful by looking for the ToDo note that was added to the file.
Delete the backup file from your desktop.
