Personal Tax Return Checklist

We have prepared the following checklist to help you assemble the information required.

General
Last year’s tax return (if this is our first year)
Details of changes to personal status such as marriage, separation, births, new address, telephone number, disabilities, death
Amounts paid by installments

Home renovation tax credit - Individuals can claim a 15% tax credit on their 2009 tax return for significant renovations made to their principal residence (home or cottage) in excess of $1,000 but not more than $10,000, between January 27, 2009 and before February 1, 2010. The maximum credit is $1,350 ($9,000×15%) per family. Click here for additional information.

Interest on money borrowed to earn investment income

Labor sponsored tax credits
Spousal or child support paid

Investments (excluding RRSP accounts)
Stocks - Capital gains summary report (from broker) or transaction slips/details
Mutual Funds - Annual statement showing gains/losses
Real estate - agreement of purchase and sale (for both original purchase and sale)
If investments are jointly owned with your spouse, details of % split
              For all investments sold, switched or exchanged during the year

Spousal or child support received
Property tax or rent paid (if family net income < $40,000)
Employment expenses (auto / supplies / home office)
  (form T2200 required - signed by employer)
Moving expenses (T1M) if you moved 40 km closer to new place of work
RRSP Home buyer information
Details of any foreign income

CRA will send Elections Canada your name, address and birth date unless you advise us otherwise.
