Restoring and Backing Up Files

Restoring a QuickBooks Backup File

  1. Save the backup file that we sent you to your desktop
  2. Start QuickBooks
  3. Press the CTRL + 1 key to display the QuickBooks product information screen
  4. Write down the location of your current data file from the File Information section [Example: C:\Program Files\Intuit\QuickBooks\ABCompany.qbw]
  5. Click OK
  6. Select File > Open or Restore Company > Restore a backup copy  > Next > Local Backup > Next
  7. Select the backup file > Open > Next
  8. Change the “save in” directory to the current data directory noted above > Save (the old file will be replaced with the new file).
  9. Close and restart QuickBooks
  10. Confirm that the restore was successful by looking for the Company > ToDo note that was added to the file.
  11. Delete the backup file from your desktop

Creating a QuickBooks Backup File

  1. Start QuickBooks
  2. Open the company file (If this is a year-end file that you will be sending to us, set the closing date first per the year-end instructions)
  3. Select File > Save copy or backup...
  4. Select Backup Copy, click Next, Select Local Backup, click Next
  5. Click Browse and choose your desktop (scroll to 1st item on list) click OK
  6. Choose no verification, Click OK, Click ‘Use this Location’, Click Finish

    Backup files should also be stored offsite
