Dorothy Armstrong could be called the den mother of Gary's team. A strong woman with a gentle manner, she was Gary’s very first recruit and has been holding the team together for 19 years since.
Dorothy was uncertain about the path she wanted to take reentering the workforce after years at home as a mom. But in 1989 she was wooed by an offer of a bookkeeping job that included the promise of a fully computerized accounting system—something entirely unique in the industry at that time.
Her role has expanded through the years with the steady growth of the practice. Today she is the client’s first point of contact, responsible for gathering and organizing relevant documentation. She schedules meetings and facilitates communication between clients and the accounting team, manages office operations and carries out administrative tasks.
Dorothy has a career history as a lone female in a male shop: she came to Canada in the 1960s after completing a printing apprenticeship in the UK and landed a job at a print shop in Toronto, first on a trial basis because of her gender—and then as a permanent staff member because of her talent.
